Severe thunderstorms will be possible over portions of the Central Plains today. An Moderate Risk (level 4 of 5) has been issued for western and central Kansas. Unseasonably hot and humid conditions are expected this next Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures in the upper 80s to mid 90s combined with dewpoints in the mid 60s to mid 70s will push peak heat index values into the mid 90s to around 105 on those days. Make sure to practice heat safety by drinking plenty of water, taking breaks indoors, and wearing light clothing.

Sunny, hot, and humid weather will continue on Monday with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and peak heat index values generally in the low to mid 90s. Parts of western Central Texas (including the Big Country) will see highs closer to the mid 90s with heat index values nearing 100 degrees by the afternoon. South winds around 10 to 15 mph may help provide subtle relief.
