Moderating Temperatures for the Eastern Two-Thirds of the Country; Approaching Storm for the West

Unseasonably warm temperatures for the Plains and Midwest will spread eastward through Sunday as a weak clipper system will bring some rain and snow showers from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. A storm approaching the west coast is expected to bring strong winds, lower elevation rain and heavy mountain snow. Unsettled weather conditions linger for the western islands of Hawaii into Sunday. Thunderstorms are forecast to occur late tonight into Sunday morning. Occasional cloud-to-ground lightning, brief heavy rain, small hail and gusty winds will be possible. Seek shelter if thunder is heard and go indoors. If caught in heavy downpours while driving, slow down or pull off to the side of the road in a safe location until the storm passes. Isolated thunderstorms may last into the afternoon hours on Sunday.
