NOAA Weather Radio Schedule

We broadcast the daily climate summaries, travelers forecast and the marine forecasts over NWR at specific times (and onlyat these times) in an attempt to shorten the length of our broadcast cycles. The length of the broadcast cycle runs from near 8 minutes during busy times and less than 3 minutes during lull periods. We broadcast these products as follows:

HOURLY WEATHER The hourly weather observations from selected cities across the area play every cycle.

LOCAL FORECASTS The short term forecast is grouped by counties and the extended forecast out to 7 days, plays every cycle.

DAILY CLIMATE SUMMARIES Climate information from the previous day for Detroit and Flint at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour from 4 AM until 10:30 AM each morning.

MARINE FORECASTS (OPEN LAKE AND NEAR SHORE) Complete forecasts (five days for the open lake, two days for the near shore) play at the top of every hour. Otherwise the first 24 hours of the forecast plays approximately every ten minutes. The Open Lake forecasts for Lake Huron, Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie are issued at 4 AM, 10 AM, 4 PM and 10 PM. The Near Shore forecast is issued during the boating season at 5 AM, 11 AM, 5 PM, and 11 PM.

LATE AFTERNOON CLIMATE UPDATE At 530 PM and every 30 minutes through 9 PM, the high, low and amount of precipitation through 5 PM are played for Detroit and Flint.

The above schedule will be truncated during periods of severe weather. In addition, we will conduct a test of the public warning alarm system each Wednesday between 11 am and 1 pm. If there is a threat of severe weather, the test will be postponed until the next available clear weather day.
